The course offers a traditional out-and-back layout across firm, fast-running fairways where strategy and shot placement are paramount. Coastal winds play a significant role, constantly changing how each hole is approached and ensuring no two rounds feel the same.
Deep revetted bunkers, natural undulations, and subtly sloping greens demand creativity, patience, and a sound short game. While the course is fair and playable for a wide range of abilities, it provides a stern test when conditions are challenging. Views across the Firth of Tay add to the atmosphere, reinforcing the sense of golfing heritage. The welcoming clubhouse and friendly members complete an experience that is authentic, understated, and deeply connected to the traditions of Scottish links golf.
You would expect to travel approx 30 minutes each way from the St.Andrews accommodation to the Elie Golf Course.
Playing golf at Elie Golf House Club is a charming and traditional links experience set along the rugged coastline of the East Neuk of Fife. Founded in 1875, the course is rich in character, offering narrow fairways, natural undulations, and small, well-defended greens that demand accuracy and imagination. Coastal winds play a constant role, encouraging creative shot-making and a thoughtful approach rather than power.
The layout hugs the shoreline, providing beautiful views of the Firth of Forth and a strong sense of connection to the sea. One of Elie’s most distinctive features is the periscope in the starter’s hut on the first tee, used to check the fairway is clear before driving. Friendly, unpretentious, and full of history, Elie delivers an authentic Scottish links experience that is both testing and thoroughly enjoyable.
You would expect to travel approx 45 minutes each way from the St.Andrews accommodation to the Panmure Golf Club.

Founded in 1845, the course is rich in history and closely associated with legendary golfer Ben Hogan. The traditional out-and-back layout is exposed to coastal winds, which add strategic complexity and ensure each round presents a fresh challenge. While demanding from the tee, the course is fair and rewards disciplined play and thoughtful shot selection. The setting is quietly beautiful rather than dramatic, reinforcing its understated character. A warm welcome in the clubhouse and a strong sense of tradition complete the experience, making Panmure a memorable test of true Scottish links golf with enduring character and charm.
You would expect to travel approx 5 minutes each way from the St.Andrews accommodation to the St. Andrews Links
Playing golf at The Castle Course at St Andrews offers a distinctly modern counterpoint to the town’s ancient links, delivering a challenging and visually dramatic experience along the rugged cliffs of the North Sea. Designed by David McLay Kidd and opened in 2008, The Castle Course is the newest addition to the St Andrews Links portfolio and is widely regarded as the most demanding of the seven public courses.
Set high above the coastline, the course features expansive fairways, bold contouring, and large, undulating greens that demand imagination and precise distance control. Pot bunkers, deep swales, and ever-present coastal winds ensure that no two rounds play the same. While generous off the tee, approach play is exacting, rewarding strategic shot placement rather than raw power.
The course provides uninterrupted sea views on several holes, creating a striking visual backdrop that contrasts beautifully with the traditional linksland closer to town. It is a course that grows in appreciation with experience, particularly for accomplished golfers who enjoy tactical decision-making.
With its contemporary design, testing layout, and dramatic setting, The Castle Course complements the Old Course experience perfectly, offering golfers at St Andrews a modern links challenge that is both memorable and uncompromising.
You would expect to travel approx 5 minutes each way from the St.Andrews accommodation to the St. Andrews Links
Playing golf at The New Course at St Andrews is a journey into the roots of championship links golf and a vital part of the St Andrews experience. Designed by Old Tom Morris and opened in 1895, it is the oldest “new” course in the world and remains a true test of traditional links play.
Running alongside the Old Course, The New Course features narrow, fast-running fairways, deep revetted bunkers, and subtly contoured greens that place a premium on accuracy and course management. The bunkering is particularly penal, rewarding thoughtful positioning from the tee rather than sheer power. Into the prevailing wind, the course can be deceptively demanding, even for accomplished golfers.
Less forgiving and more exacting than the Old Course, The New Course is often favoured by purists who appreciate its understated challenge. It offers an authentic, no-nonsense links experience and a deeper understanding of the strategic foundations that define golf at St Andrews.
You would expect to travel approx 30 minutes each way from the St.Andrews accommodation to the Lundin Golf Club

Its undulating fairways, deep bunkers, and fast, true greens reward accuracy, strategy, and careful club selection.
Exposed to the winds off the North Sea, every hole can play differently depending on the weather, making adaptability essential. The course features a mix of short, tactical par-4s and long, testing par-5s, with holes weaving through dunes and open landscape that capture the essence of traditional Scottish links golf. While less famous than the Old Course, the Jubilee offers a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere, combined with stunning coastal views and historic charm, making it a perfect introduction to St Andrews’ golfing heritage.
